Friday Night Magic- Draft
Magic: The Gathering
Tournament
2019-05-31
19:00

Every Friday at 7pm, Game Theory hosts Friday Night Magic, a weekly social meet up of Magic: The Gathering fans. Meet other players, play some games, check out new cards, test your latest deck designs, and most importantly, have fun.

All players are welcome at Friday Night Magic. It doesn't matter if you're just starting out, have played a lot of Magic Duels, or even if you've been playing at home or at school with friends for years, you'll find a new home-away-from-home at FNM.

We feature an organized tournament for players who are ready for a little friendly competition. The formats are standard, modern and booster draft.

There's still plenty of fun to be had just hanging out and playing casual pick-up games with players who love Magic as much as you do.

Before heading to your first Friday Night Magic event, don't forget to create your Wizards account (it takes less than a minute). When you create a Wizards account you receive a player ID number, called a DCI number, which you'll need in order to play in any kind of official Magic tournament. Click here to create your DCI number (https://accounts.wizards.com/)

Want a way to play that offers a level playing field and lets you check out new cards at the same time? Then a limited format like booster draft may be for you. Unlike constructed formats, where you arrive with a carefully constructed deck ready to play, limited formats allow you to build a deck from new cards as part of the game.

At the start of booster draft, each player opens a booster pack and picks a single card. (Don’t show the other players what you pick!) Then everyone passes the rest of their pack to player on their left, each player then picks a card from the pack they just received before passing again. This process continues until all the cards in those packs have been drafted. Then each player opens a second pack, but this time, you pass the pack to your right. After all those cards are drafted, you do the same with the third pack, passing to the left again. Once all the packs have been drafted, everyone builds a deck from the cards they have selected. You may add as many basic lands (Plains, Islands, Swamps, Mountains, and Forests) to your deck as you’d like, but each deck must have at least 40 cards.

Sign up begins at 6:30pm and the event starts at 7.
